Q3 Audiences

With Reference to your own detailed examples, explore what affects how an audience may respond to a media text.

The first effect on how an audience responds to a media text is through the use of technical codes, this can be shown in the trailer "Get Out". The use of editing speeds up throughout the trailer which builds up the action within the film which can attract a certain audience, likewise the use of slow editing and a calm audio code can attract a different type of audience. Next the positioning of the audience can be made out through the types of camera angles and shots or through the use of mode of address. This is important to have so you are aware where the audience is sitting/watching the trailer/film, this can change the opinion on certain characters depending where the camera shots are taking whether it is a close up or a long shot. The last effect the audience responds to this type of media text will be the context, this can be shown through by direct to a specific audience. This can be shown in the trailer "Get Out" by directing the audience towards a certain religion or ethnicity of black people by basing the trailer around ethnicity.

The effect on the audience can respond to the media text through audience theories. This can be shown by the theory 'Hypodermic needle effect' (which is where the audience becomes one) in the media text "Perks of being a wallflower" for personal identity, this means that the audience will gain pleasure as they could be able to relate to the film which makes the audience empathise to a particular character in a situation such as the character Charlie in the film.
