When I started my pre-production (storyboard) I had to do some research into my genre 'thriller', at first I decided to watch a thriller film called "Silence of the Lambs". Once I watched the film I did some research on what a thriller genre is and how it can relate to the film, a thriller film is mainly seen in crime or espionage that keeps the plot exciting and the viewers on the edge of their seats waiting for a big reveal. Thrillers also like adding illusions trying to trick the audience by add ing mind games. After I started to look at the different conventions used in a thriller film, for example some technical codes are camera shots, lightning, editing, mis-en-scene, sound and colour. Next I analysed the film by looking at the conventions such as 'Themes & Settings' which is very important as the theme is how the genre is represented throughout the film such as; Crime; Urban; Modern; Betrayal; Greed; Paranoia and mind games to add twists to try and trick the audience. Another convention is 'Characters' that can be in a thriller film which is; Protagonist VS Antagonist; Hero VS Villain; Side kicks; Victims; Stereotypes; False Hero/Villain; Love/Sex are all important characters that can be in a thriller film. After I gathered these conventions I moved onto how a thriller genre uses 'Structure & Narrative' and this is how the viewers see the film (mode of address), some examples of these would be; Murder; Gun fights; Chase scenes; Twists and Mind games. The Narrative can have an effect on the audience as well through; Tension; Suspense; Fear; Shock and Excitement. The Structure is where the protagonist or antagonist creates initial conflict then they will be captured or have a chase scene to then have a final conflict, to then either successful but changed or dead/escaped/captured.
My thriller film's target audience is aimed at young male/female teenagers aged 15+, the reason my thriller film is aimed towards a younger audience is because my protagonist and antagonist is between this age range to try and relate more to the relationships and the decisions of the characters. The demographic for my for my production is mainly aimed for people who have mobile phones as the film is related towards the use of phones and when people have mobile phones it will help them relate to the film. Another audience for my thriller film will be people who are interested in the thriller genre and not necessarily young and could be much older, this means that i will need to make it suit the genre and the teenager audience by making the story more complex which will create a wider audience who are interested in the thriller genre.
When comparing my poster "THE APP" to other different posters are very different, this can be shown in my research when i looked at different types of thriller posters such as "ALTERED PERCEPTION" where they have zoomed onto the eye of the main character of the film which in sense is an idea that i stole to zoom onto a specific type of object of the main character to add mystery on who the main character could be without any spoilers. However, the film poster "SOLO" has their main character easily recognisable at the front which can suggest that
